ON REHEARSALS
On January 28, 1983 Celine Dion was in Paris, France on the rehearsals for the TV show "Champs-Elysees", hosted by Michel Drucker and aired on Antenne 2 channel in France. Before the rehearsal, Therese Zeidman explained to Celine that she should be able to tell if Drucker was favorably impressed by her rehearsal by the way he acted. "After you sing, if he comes to you and touches you, if he puts his hand on your shoulder, that means he liked what you did. If he talks to you, then youve hit the jackpot". After the rehearsal, Drucker hugged her, then told her he wanted to ask her a few questions on his show. During the rehearsals Celine sang "D´amour ou d´amitié". According to Celine, Drucker, who was following the rehearsals on a monitor, came out of his box and walked toward her, congratulating her very warmly.

ON TV SHOW
On January 29, 1983 Celine Dion appeared during the broadcast of the TV show "Champs-Élysées", hosted by Michel Drucker and aired on Antenne 2 channel in France. Only six days after the MIDEM gala, Celine was invited to appear on Drucker´s TV show. It was Europe´s biggest variety show, watched by the French, Belgians, Swiss, Germans, Italians and Spanish. Everyone was very nervous. Two hours before the television appearance, they were still wondering whether Celine should wear the same dress she did in Tokyo in 1982, or the black pants and white blouse that Françoise had bought for her, or the jacket that Anne-Renee (Rene Angelil´s wife) loved but that drove the cameramen and the lighting people crazy. On the big night, they got together as they always did at Guy and Dodo´s restaurant, on the rue Cadet in Paris. Guy Morali, Celine and Rene Angelil left there at the very last minute. To open the show, Drucker paid tribute to the great French actor Louis de Funes, who had just died. Then he reminded the audience that Celine had been the revelation of the recent MIDEM competition. "She´s going to go far", he said, looking straight into the camera. "Mesdames et messieurs, you´ll never forget the voice you´re about to hear. So remember this name: Celine Dion", he said. Celine stepped onto the giant set. Black pants, a white shirt, a swallowtail jacket. Then she performed "D´amour ou d´amitié". "She was a little awkward, and she still had her baby fat", Drucker remembered. "But she sang with such power and emotion that you would have sworn she was a lot more experienced". After Celine finished, Drucker went over to her, took her in his arms again and told her, in front of all of Europe, what a beautiful voice she had. He held her hand during the closing seconds of the show. According to Celine in less than a week, her MIDEM appearance and the Drucker´s TV show had made her a star in all the French-speaking parts of Europe. "D´amour ou d´amitié" played everywhere and was at the top of all the charts, and stayed there until that summer.
