D´EUX SPECIAL
On March 28, 1995 at 7:30 p.m., in Montreal, Canada at the Studio 42 of Radio-Canada channel (from Quebec, Canada), a broadcast coproduced by Canada´s largest public network and MusiquePlus launched the new Celine-Goldman French album, "D´eux". Big, public launches with lots of media coverage were becoming an Angelil speciality (Celine´s husband and manager). His strategy was to negotiate with one side while showing excessive generosity toward the other. The show was to be aired on April 1, 1995 on MusiquePlus channel, and the following day, on Radio-Canada´s flagship program "Les Beaux Dimanches". The whole listening spectrum would be covered. MusiquePlus´s young fans, the biggest record-buying group, and the not so young. The one-hour TV special was hosted by popular French Canadian TV and Radio personality, Véronique Cloutier. During the show, Celine performed "Je sais pas", "J´attendais", "Regarde-moi", "J´irai oú tu iras" in duet with Jean-Jacques Goldman, "Les derniers seront les premiers" (in wich Goldman was playing guitar) and "Vole". Celine and Jean-Jacques Goldman also were interviewed. Also, the music video for "Pour que tu m´aimes encore" was presented exclusively. For his part, André Saint -Pierre made the documentary segments of the show: interview in Paris, France during the recording sessions of the album last fall and in-depth interview on issues that particularly affect Celine. Rene Angelil was convinced that Celine´s new album with Jean-Jacques Goldman was her best to date. He was saying openly that it was unlikely she could do better. Even though she expressed herself in English with remarkable self-assurance, she was more at ease in French. That was the lenguage she used to speak of the things of the heart, of the soul, her lenguage of poetry. Her English albums were producer designed. It was a totally different universe, where the sound was more important than the content. In a matter of weeks, "D´eux" had broken the record of 350,000 set in 1981 by Ginette Reno´s "Je ne suis qu´une chanson". In less than a year, it has gone platinum six times in canada, and become the best-selling French album in the history of recorded music. "Pour que tu m´aimes encore" was the hit of the summer of 1995 everywhere in Europe. Celine´s voice had never been so radiant, so deep, so clear. Goldman had found a way to use the richest and most subtle naunces of her voice.
