NICKELS RESTAURANT
Nickels Grill & Bar is a Canadian restaurant chain. The restaurant has an extensive menu ranging from complete breakfasts to hamburgers, milkshakes, pizza, chicken, ribs, salads and a number of sandwiches, including Montreal-style smoked meat.

Nickels was originally created by pop diva Celine Dion, who opened her first restaurant in 1990. Celine has since divested her interests in the chain and unfortunately she is no longer affiliated with Nickels as of 1997, although the chain continues to offer the "Gâteau Céline" dessert in her honor. Nickels has since expanded to 32 franchised restaurants located primarily in Quebec and Ontario, in Canada. Originally designed to resemble a typical North American family diner, Nickels recently redesigned its restaurants and introduced an improved grill and bar concept. Nickels is now part of the Resto Pro Group of restaurants which also includes: Baton Rouge , FireGrill Steakhouses and Vinnie Gambini´s Italian Restaurants.

With its fifties theme, its jukeboxes and rock and roll atmosphere, of which Celine is the co-founder along with four others. Since its inception on December 5, 1990, the restaurant chain has kept up with the rhythm of Celine´s popularity. At the present time, the chain consists of more than forty restaurants in America, and the rate of restaurant openings doesn´t seem to want to slow down. Celine has been active in the success of Nickels. She choose the waitresses´ uniform which, for the opening of the first restaurant in Montreal, were made by her mother, and added her personal touch to the restaurant decoration. It was Celine who decided to include the chocolate cake that she so loved as a child in the menu and still today, it is by far the most requested dessert. Nickels enjoys a large and loyal following in the casual dining market for its high standards in quality of food preparation, presentation and service as well as for the friendly and upbeat atmosphere of its themed restaurants. Years of excellent customer service, a successful branding strategy and an ongoing relationship with the original creator, Celine Dion, have made Nickels one of the most recognized names in the Quebec and Ontario restaurant markets.

Nickels Restaurant is a reincarnation of the popular "diner" which abounded in the United States forty years ago, but on a larger scale. These small snack bars were, in fact, originally outfitted in railroad cars. Today, each Nickels restaurant seats approximately 200 people. A good blend of the functional modern restaurant and the unique "diner" style which as been faithfully recreated with the omnipresent Wurlitzer jukebox, virtually the company figurehead, at the entrance of each restaurant. The older clientele relive their youth and the youngsters think it´s "cool". Nickels Restaurant offer a popular and varied menu where pasta shares the spotlight with pizza, chicken, fish and meat. The restaurant also serves smoked meat, a typical dish in Montreal (Canada), Celine´s home town. Speaking of smoked meat, Nickels sells the most smoked meat in the world. It is worth noting that no restaurant chain can claim to offer a wide choice of quality meals under the same roof in an atmosphere which is out of the ordinary and is suitable for a meal with family and friends.

It´s been an exciting start, filled with tremendous accomplishments. Since its first location opened its doors on December 5, 1990 on Côte Vertu Boulevard in the city of St-Laurent, a suburb of Montreal, Nickels has emerged as the leader in family dining, deli restaurants in the province of Quebec, Canada. In March of 1995, this initial restaurant was moved to a larger location and expanded from 170 to 232 seats. In only 8 years, Nickels has gained brand name recognition as Quebec´s leading family dining, deli restaurant franchise. With a rapidly growing network of 40 franchises serving over 8 million customers yearly, Nickels has the momentum to expand its leading market position into Ontario, and the Eastern United States. The co-founders of Nickels restaurants were Paul Sara, Lawrence Mammas, Rene Angelil, Peter Mammas and Celine Dion.

...> The "Gâteau Céline"
The famous "Gâteau Céline" (meaning "Celine´s Cake") wich is offered in each Nickels Restaurant´s menu, is a dessert chocolate cake originally introduced thanks to Celine Dion. Celine decided to include the chocolate cake that she so loved as a child in the menu and still today, it is by far the most requested dessert. After the disaffiliation of Celine from the Nickels in 1997, the chain continued offering the "Gâteau Céline" dessert in her honor.
