NICKELS OPENING
On December 5, 1990 Celine Dion celebrated the opening of the first Nickels Restaurant, an original creation of Celine and her manager, Rene Angelil. This first restaurant of Nickels, opened its doors in Ville Saint-Laurent in Montreal, Canada. Celine was photographed with her parents and with the humorist, François Massicotte. Nickels, the restaurant concept Celine and Rene developed, was to be a visual expression of their world and their image. Paul Sara, Rene´s cousin, would guide them with the business part of the venture. When he left banking, Paul bought several Harvey´s Restaurant franchises. In 1990, he approached Celine and Rene about setting up a restaurant chain. He remembered that on one of their trips to California, they had an idea: to open a diner-type restaurant. Together, they developed the concept, and Celine designed the waitresses´ uniforms. They hit on a name Nickels, as in Celine´s lucky five-cent piece. The soft gleam of the coin would highlight the decor.

In 1990 Celine Dion gave a press conference in Montreal, Canada to announce the launching of the "Unison Tour", a concert tour organized to support the album "Unison". Celine´s manager, Rene Angelil also talked at the conference. After the conference, Celine continued giving interviews for some press in Quebec. In 1990 Celine Dion appeared on the Netherlands TV show hosted by Hans van Willigenburg, a famous TV hoster and Radio presenter. Celine was promoting her new album "Unison", so she was interviewed. She talked about her triumph at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, and about her parents and siblings. Then, Gerard Jan Joling (a Dutch singer and television presenter) joined Celine on the interview. He gave to Celine a picture of them, together, taken during the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 rehearsals. Celine she would keep as a souvenir of that contest. Then, Celine performed the song "Where does my heart beat now".
