IN MONTREAL
On May 1, 1988 after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland Celine Dion returned in triumph to Montreal, Canada. Celine and her manager Rene Angelil arrived to the Montréal International Airport, in Mirabel, near Montreal with the prize on her hands. Alerted by her new press agent Francine Chaloult, more than one hundred reporters, photographers, TV cameramen and other industry people were there to meet her. Rene had a folder full of clippings from the British and Irish papers, featuring Celine on page one. They praised the "vibrant personality", the "irresistible charm" and the "spontaneity of the young Quebec vocalist". Rene reminded the journalists that the Eurovisions were the world´s most-watched television show after the Oscars and the Olympic Games. He couldn´t stop himself from describing Celine's crying fit when she found out she´d won. Everybody burst into laughter. Then he added,"It´s been a year and a half since she´s had a good cry". He went on to describe the Dublin press conference attended by seven hundred journalists from around the world and Celine´s impact when she told them that she was the youngest child of a family of fourteen, and that she was from Quebec. He told them about the autograph sessions in Dublin airport and how, on the British Airways flight from Dublin to London, the captain mentioned that a star was on board and that the passengers all broke into applause. When a journalist asked him about his own career, he answered in astonishment, "but Celine is my career!. With her, my dreams have come true. I wouldn´t change a thing, even if you gave me $10 million". Celine broke in, "We´ve been together for seven years and he´s never once made a mistake. I trust him. I tell him everything, all my secrets. His dream and my dream are the same".
