Heavy damage from Hurricane Katrina caused the closure of Harrah´s resorts in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana and Hurricane Rita closed Harrah´s Lake Charles in Louisiana. Jerry Seinfeld opened the evening´s festivities with a solid 30-minute set of stand-up comedy. He was followed by Celine, who gave a heart-stopping performance. She sang "It´s all coming back to me now", "Because you loved me", "To love you more", "I´m alive", "The power of love", "Love can move mountains" and "My heart will go on". Elton John, the last performer of the evening, had the house rocking with a selection of his greatest hits. Celine and Elton ended the evening by bringing the crowd to its feet with a powerful duet of "Saturday night´s alright". Celine and Elton also performed in duet "Sorry seems to be the hardest word".
CONCERT IN LAS VEGAS
On March 19, 2006 Celine Dion performed at the Colosseum of the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, USA with the show "A New Day...". At 8:42 p.m., the show had not started yet. Then, a beautiful voice was heard, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to A New Day". Celine started singing "A new day has come", as she walks from the back of the stage slowly to the front. After the first song, the stage went dark and after a few moments, the spot light came on Celine, and she went right into "The power of love". She also sang "It´s all comming back to me now", "Because you loved me", "To love you more, "I´m alive", "I drove all night", and many others. The French songs were great. "I wish" was fun and energetic and pure Celine song and dance. And at the end, she collapses flat on her back with her legs hanging on the stairs to the stage. Then, to top off that cool ending, she begins the next song "Love can move mountains" lying on her back. "My heart will go on" was terrific as always. During the last song "Wonderful world", pictures of the audience were broadcasted on the huge screen behind Celine. Finally, gracefully, Celine walked down the stage stairs to the first row and gave to a woman in the audience a red rose and a hug. The woman fell apart with tears of joy and a whaling cry. Celine comforted her and said, "Don´t cry honey, I love you too. Everything will be alright". During the show, Celine also mentioned the next arrival for the 500th shows of "A New Day...", coming up next May.
