THE ALBUM
"1 Fille & 4 Types" (meaning "1 Girl & 4 Guys") is a French-language album by Celine Dion, released on October 13, 2003. It´s her 21st French album and 30th in total.

Celine Dion was surrounded with three writers-composers and an artistic director who have made their mark on the French music scene. The voice of all these artists: Jacques Veneruso, Erick Benzi, Gildas Arzel and Jean-Jacques Goldman, accompanies Celine´s performance throughout the entire album, produced by Benzi and guided by Goldman. The album features three covers: "Tu nages" originally by Anggun (2000), "Retiens-moi" by Nanette Workman (1996), and "Rien n´est vraiment fini" by Leyla Doriane (2000). "1 Fille & 4 Types" released in three different formats, regular CD and two limited editions: CD with 50-page collector´s book, and CD with the making of "Tout l´or des hommes" music video DVD. The last two were released in France only. For this album, Celine also recorded a song titled "Quand ils sont là", and footage from Celine singing this song on the studio in Las Vegas, USA was shown in 2003 on French TV. Anyway, the song was refused from the final selection and never was released. Later, singer Yannick Noah recorded a cover of this song. On October 1, 2003 Celine taped the "1 Fille & 4 Types" television special at the Colosseum of the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, USA where she performed her show "A New Day...", to promote the album. After three single releases from that album: "Tout l´or des hommes", "Et je t´aime encore" and "Contre nature", there was a fourth one issued in France and Belgium, "Je lui dirai". However, it was promoting also Celine´s next album "Miracle", as it was included there as a bonus track. "Et je t´aime encore" is a French version of "Je t´aime encore" included on Celine´s previous English album "One Heart". A live version of this song became a part of "A New Day... Live In Las Vegas" CD, as Celine performed it between November 2003 and November 2004 during her show "A New Day...". All singles from "1 Fille & 4 Types" were featured later on Celine´s 2005 French greatest hits compilation "On Ne Change Pas". The making of "1 Fille & 4 Types" album and "Contre nature" music video, as well as all music videos from this album were included on the "On Ne Change Pas" DVD, released on November 18, 2005.

...> Recording Sessions
The album was recorded between October 2002 and May 2003. The first part of the recording sessios, took place during October 8 to 11, 2002 in Paris, France. Some photos from the recording sessions in Paris, were included on the album booklet. The second part of the recording sessions took place at the Digital Insights Studios in Las Vegas, USA during May 2 to 11, 2003. Photos from the recording sessions in Las Vegas were included on the 50-page collector´s book of "1 Fille & 4 Types". Footage from the making of "1 Fille & 4 Types" can be found on the "On Ne Change Pas" DVD, released in 2005.

Photographer Yannick Saillet made the photo session for this album. Saillet also worked as the director for the music video of "Tout l´or des hommes". The set for the music video and for the photo session was the same. It took place in the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada, USA and featured Celine and the four guys: Jacques Veneruso, Erick Benzi, Gildas Arzel and Jean-Jacques Goldman. Some of the photos taken during the photo session in the Mojave Desert, were included on the album booklet. Other photos were included on the 50-page collector´s book of "1 Fille & 4 Types".

Artistic director Jean-Jacques Goldman has come up this time with an idea that completely won over the diva: surround her with three different writer-composers who have made their mark on the French music scene, Jacques Veneruso, Erick Benzi and master guitarist Gildas Arzel. That´s how it born "1 Fille & 4 Types" (meaning "1 Girl & 4 Guys"). The voice of these incomparable artists accompanies Celine´s performance throughout the album, produced by Benzi and guided by Goldman from start to finish. "Of course we had pleasure before, but there I think we got more, because I consider them as my brothers: we learnt to know each other, I appreciate what they do for me, but it is more than this, it is letting pleasure come above all of this. It has been the album of pleasure", says Celine. The cover of the album features Celine and the 4 guys, during the shooting of the music video for "Tout l´or des hommes".

"1 Fille & 4 Types" has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. It entered the chart in France at number 1, with 123,600 total of sales in its first week, marking Celine´s eleventh number 1 and her seventh to début at the top there. It remained at number 1 for four non-consecutive weeks and sixty weeks on the charts, and was certified 2x platinum becoming fifth best-selling album of 2003. In Canada, the album entered at number 1 with 44,500 copies sold in its first week and remained at the top for two weeks, being Celine´s ninth number 1 in her native country. "1 Fille & 4 Types" reached also number 1 in Belgium Wallonia for two weeks, and was certified platinum. The album achieved also platinum status in Switzerland (number 2 on the chart) and gold in Finland (number 9 on the chart). "1 Fille & 4 Types" charted in many other non-Francophone countries as well, reaching top 10 in Greece, Poland, and Belgium Flanderes. On the European Top 100 Albums it peaked at number 9.

The album met with positive reviews. Allmusic said that "1 fille & 4 types is a record that many Dion fans were hoping would arrive one day. Her vocals are back at top of their game: gone are the majority of the near-patented diva hysterics and howls and arriving in their place is a voice that values dynamics over acrobatics. The band is stripped down (comparatively) to its bare essentials, taking Dion into relatively unfamiliar territories such as country-pop and folk, and she proves herself more than up to the task of delivering top-notch performances every time".

"Tout l´or des hommes" (meaning "All the men´s gold") is the first hit single from "1 Fille & 4 Types". It was released on October 6, 2003 in selected countries.
"Tout l´or des hommes" was written by Jacques Veneruso, who wrote Celine´s previous French hit "Sous le vent". The song was produced by Erick Benzi who worked with Celine on the albums: "D´eux" in 1995 and "S´il Suffisait D´aimer" in 1998. On October 1, 2003 Celine taped the "1 Fille & 4 Types" TV special at the Colosseum of the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, USA where she performed this song among others. "Tout l´or des hommes" became a hit spending eight weeks at number 1 on the Quebec Singles Chart and three weeks at the top of the Polish Airplay Chart. It reached the top 10 in the Francophone countries, including number 3 in France where it was certified silver for selling 125,000 copies. "Tout l´or des hommes" became the highest charting French-language single on the Canadian Singles Chart ever, peaking at number 2. It was featured later on Celine´s greatest hits album "On Ne Change Pas" (2005). "Tout l´or des hommes" was performed by Celine on May 13, 2008 in Belgium, during her "Taking Chances Tour".

"Et je t´aime encore" (meaning "And I still love you") is the second single from "1 Fille & 4 Types". It was released on February 23, 2004 in Francophone countries.
An English version of this song was released earlier on the "One Heart" album. "Et je t´aime encore" was written by Jean-Jacques Goldman, who worked with Celine on "D´eux" album in 1995 and "S´il Suffisait D´aimer" in 1998. On October 1, 2003 Celine taped the "1 Fille & 4 Types" TV special at the Colosseum of the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, USA where she performed this song among others. The song reached top 20 in the Francophone countries, including number 14 in Belgium Wallonia and number 16 in France. It was also very popular in Quebec, peaking at number 2. "Et je t´aime encore" was performed during the "A New Day..." show, from November 2003 till mid-2004, and included on the "A New Day... Live In Las Vegas" album. It was also featured on Celine´s greatest hits compilation "On Ne Change Pas" in 2005.

The music video for "Tout l´or des hommes", directed by Yannick Saillet, was shot in May 2003 in the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada, USA (same place as the photo session for the album). It was released in October 2003. It was included on the "Tout l´or des hommes" DVD single and Celine´s 2005 video compilation "On Ne Change Pas". The making of "Tout l´or des hommes" music video appeared on the "1 Fille & 4 Types" limited edition and the "On Ne Change Pas" DVD as well.

During the shooting for the music video of "Tout l´or des hommes" in the Mojave Desert of Las Vegas, USA in May 2003, was also shooted a music video for the hidden track of the album titled "Valse adieu". It was also directed by Yannick Saillet and features Celine singing with Jacques Veneruso, Erick Benzi, Gildas Arzel and Jean Jacques Goldman.

The music video, directed by Yannick Saillet, was filmed at the Green Valley Ranch´s Whiskey Bar in Las Vegas, USA in October 2003. The black and white music video, features Celine singing on the floor and footage from diferent women. It was released in late December 2003. It was included on Celine´s 2005 video compilation "On Ne Change Pas". A coloured version of the music video was used by TF1 channel as a TV spot to help promote the album in France.

The music video, directed by Didier Kerbrat, was filmed on March 27, 2004 in the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada, USA and released on April 26, 2004. It was included on Celine´s 2005 DVD, called "On Ne Change Pas". The making of "Contre nature" music video was also included there as a DVD bonus.
