THE BOOK
"12 Heroes Among Us" is a book of stories of brave children from all over the world with exclusive pictures with Celine Dion. It was published on August 14, 2008 as part of the Faces of Hope 2008 project, a UNICEF series of international events whose objective is to celebrate life and raise money to assist the needs of children everywhere. Its French version, titled "12 Héros Parmi Nous", was published by Editions La Semaine.

Faces of Hope is a series of international events designed by UNICEF to celebrate life. In 2008, they chose to highlight the courage of 12 children from 9 countries from around the world, who have managed to survive incredible tragedies, who are now well and want to share their experiences with other youngsters and their families. As every year, in 2008 the Faces of Hope team had the unique opportunity to benefit from Celine Dion´s presence during the events. The book titled "12 Heroes Among Us" or "12 Héros Parmi Nous" (the French version) tells the story of brave children from all over the world who have overcome life´s most challenging hardships. Their stories are recounted through over 100 riveting photos and stories in this book. In addition, their time with Celine has been captured in this 184 page book. This book is a testimonial of hope and courage, of survival and life seen through the heart. The famous writer Georges-Hébert Germain (who has already wrote on Celine on the authorized biography titled "Celine", "Celine: The Authorized Biography" and on "Ma Vie, Mon Rêve") wrote the foreword for the French version of the book. As part of the project, they also created a family calendar and four UNICEF song cards featuring Celine. All proceeds from these items were donated to the Sainte-Justine Hospital in Montreal, Canada, the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada as well as UNICEF.

In mid-July 2008 the 12 courageous children met Celine in Montreal, Canada for the photo session for the book. Made by photographer Heidi Hollinger, the session took place at the Delta Centre-Ville Hotel from July 14 to July 18, 2008. The unveiling of the photos for the calendar and for the book took place on August 16, 2008 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada before a concert of Celine with the "Taking Chances Tour". There, Celine also met with Mario Lemire Junior, one of the young heroes.
