...> About The Album
"Let´s Talk About Love" includes the Grammy and Academy Award winning song, "My heart will go on", which also served as the theme song to the 1997 blockbuster motion picture, "Titanic". The song reached number-one across the world, and became the most successful song of Celine´s career. A special edition with 3 CD st with "Let´s Talk About Love", "Falling Into You" and "A New Day Has Come" was released in October 2007. Later, it was re-packaged and released in a reusable gift box on September 29, 2009, titled "The Collection". Also on October 2, 2009 "Let´s Talk About Love/A New Day Has Come" 2CD set was released. Celine followed successful "Falling Into You" album with "Let´s Talk About Love", which she publicized as its sequel. "Let´s Talk About Love" features a host of special guests: Barbra Streisand on "Tell him", the Bee Gees on "Immortality", and world-renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti on "I hate you then I love you". Other musicians included Carole King and Sir George Martin - the famous The Beatles producer on "The reason", Bryan Adams on "Let´s talk about love", and Jamaican singer Diana King, who added a reggae tinge to "Treat her like a lady". The most successful single from the album became the classically influenced ballad "My heart will go on", which was composed by James Horner, and produced by Horner and Walter Afanasieff. Serving as the love theme for the 1997 blockbuster film "Titanic", the song topped the charts in most countries across the world, and has become Celine´s signature song. It won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, four Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, and many other awards around the world. "Let´s Talk About Love" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album and "Tell him" for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. "Let´s Talk About Love" includes the following covers: "Treat her like a lady" by Diana King, "Love is on the way" by Billy Porter, "When I need you" by Leo Sayer, "Let´s talk about love", which is an English-language version of the French-language song "Puisque tu pars" by Jean-Jacques Goldman, and "Amar haciendo el amor", a Spanish version of the song "You only love once" by Billy Mann. "I hate you then I love you" is an English adaptation of "Grande grande grande", recorded by Italian singer, Mina; the English cover was previously recorded by other artists, including Shirley Bassey and Julio Iglesias, both of whose versions were under the title "Never, never, never", and neither of which were duets. After the success of "Let´s Talk About Love", Celine embarked on the 1998-99 "Let´s Talk About Love Tour".

...> Title And Cover
Originally called "The Reason", from the first piece of the album, the title changed because of copyright problems with Carole King. So, it was called "Let´s Talk About Love" because Celine loves this song. The song "Let´s talk about love" is an English-language version of the French-language song "Puisque Tu Pars" by Jean-Jacques Goldman. English lyrics were written by Canadian rock singer-songwriter, Bryan Adams in 1997. The album cover with Celine´s face in one of the photos taken during the photo session for this album, made by photographer Michael Thompson.
...> Chart Success
Before "Let´s Talk About Love" was even released, Sony Music Entertainment announced they had orders for almost 11 million copies worldwide (10,750,300), making it the most expected album of 1997. The sales skyrocketed right at the beginning, and the album quickly topped the charts all around the world, smashing sales records in many countries. "Let´s Talk About Love" has sold over 31 million copies worldwide and became one of the best-selling albums in history, 20 million of which were sold in first four months, 6 of that total in the United States. In the U.S., it debuted at number 2 with 334,000 copies. The sales kept increasing until a 624,000 total in its sixth week, though remaining at number 2. Finally, "Let´s Talk About Love" topped the Billboard 200 the following week. Until May 1998, the album stayed a total of 17 weeks at number 2, despite reaching number 1 only once. It was certified diamond by the RIAA, for shipping 10 million copies in the U.S. (9,465,000 copies sold according to Nielsen SoundScan). In Canada, it debuted at number 1 with 230,212 copies sold, setting another record by Celine in her native country that still remains, and after only three weeks it was certified diamond. "Let´s Talk About Love" has sold 1.7 million copies in Canada. In 2003, the album received an IFPI Award to commemorate the sales of 10 million copies of "Let´s Talk About Love" in Europe. It has sold almost 2 million copies in the United Kingdom and was certified 6x platinum. After selling 1.5 million copies in Germany, it was certified 3x platinum. Other countries, where the album has sold over 1 million copies include France (diamond award) and Japan (million award). "Let´s Talk About Love" reached number 1 all over the world, spending 11 weeks at the top in the Netherlands, 10 weeks at number 1 on the European Top 100 Albums chart, 9 weeks at number 1 in Switzerland and Norway, 8 weeks in New Zealand, 7 weeks in France, Italy and Belgium Wallonia, 5 weeks in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and Denmark, 3 weeks in Austria, 2 weeks in Canada, Ireland and Belgium Flanders, 1 week in the United States, Sweden and Finland. "Let´s Talk About Love" reached also the top in Greece. In Argentina, the album was certified 2x platinum, with 120,000 sales.
...> Critical Reception
Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic said "Falling Into You finally established Dion as a superstar in America, so its sequel, Let´s Talk About Love, was designed to consolidate her position as a newly minted star. The album was constructed as a blockbuster, featuring Dion´s trademark melodramatic ballads, some carefully tailored dance-pop, a bevy of duets with the likes of Barbra Streisand and the Bee Gees, and production and songs from adult contemporary gurus David Foster, Jim Steinman, and Walter Afanasieff. Given that so many talented craftsmen worked on Let´s Talk About Love, it makes sense that a number of the cuts succeed according to adult contemporary terms - they are predictably sweeping showcases for Dion´s soaring, technically skilled voice. As usual, the singles, including the Streisand duet and the Titanic love theme, shine the most brilliantly, but even the filler is immaculately produced. If the end result doesn´t quite gel as an album, that shouldn´t be surprising - this is music by committee, a product that was made to appeal to the widest possible audience. Such a calculated execution guarantees that anyone who liked one of the singles shouldn´t be disappointed by Let´s Talk About Love, but it doesn´t necessarily mean they´ll remember all of the record after it´s finished playing.

THE SINGLES
...> "Tell him"
"Tell him" is a duet between Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion. It was released on November 3, 1997 as the first single from Celine´s album "Let´s Talk About Love" and Streisand´s "Higher Ground".
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
On March 24, 1997 Celine became the first artist ever to perform twice on the same Academy Awards night. In addition to singing "Because you loved me", she also sang "I finally found someone" from the movie "The Mirror Has Two Faces", recorded by Barbra Streisand and Bryan Adams. Streisand preferred not to perform that night and Natalie Cole had been scheduled to sing her song instead. But Cole pulled out and two days before the Oscar night, Celine was asked if she could do it. Although nervous, she accepted and managed to perform on the night. A few days later, Streisand sent Celine flowers and a note: "I watched the tape afterwards, you sang my song beautifully and I regret I wasn´t in the room to hear you, next time let´s make one together. I really wish your song would have won, you are a wonderful singer". That note wasn´t left without an answer and Rene Angelil called up David Foster to write a song for them, and the result was "Tell him". On October 7, 1997 "Tell him" had its first runs on the United States radio waves. This duet was rejected however by non-adult contemporary radio stations. Even if the song was a large adult contemporary hit, Sony Music Entertainment cancelled the U.S. single release, because it did not have a broad enough support to put the song on top of the charts. However, "Tell him" was a huge hit outside the U.S. "Tell him" peaked at number 2 in the Netherlands and Ireland, number 3 in Belgium, Europe, France and the United Kingdom, number 4 in Italy and Switzerland, and was a top 10 hit in many other countries. The single has sold very well around the world, receiving platinum awards in the Netherlands (75,000), Belgium (50,000), and gold in the United Kingdom (400,000), France (400,000), Australia (35,000), Switzerland (25,000) and Norway (10,000). "Tell him" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals in 1998. Celine performed this song as a virtual duet with Barbra Streisand during the "Let´s Talk About Love Tour". "Tell him" was later included on both artists´ compilations: Celine´s "The Collector´s Series, Volume One" and Streisand´s "The Essential Barbra Streisand". In 2008, it became also a part of Celine´s greatest hits "My Love: Essential Collection". And Barbra Streisand "Duets" in 2002.

...> "My heart will go on"
"My heart will go on" is the theme song/love theme of the 1997 blockbuster film "Titanic". With music by James Horner, lyrics by Will Jennings, and production by Walter Afanasieff, it was recorded by Celine. Originally released in 1997 on Celine´s album "Let´s Talk About Love", it went to number 1 all over the world, including the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. "My heart will go on" was released in Australia and Germany on December 8, 1997, and in the rest of the world in January and February 1998.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
"My heart will go on" became Celine´s biggest hit, and one of the best-selling singles of all time, and was the world´s best-selling single of 1998. Horner had originally composed the song as an instrumental motif that is used in several scenes during "Titanic". He then wanted to make a full vocal song out of it, for use in the end credits of the film. Director James Cameron did not want such a song, but Horner went ahead anyway and got Jennings to write the lyrics. When Celine originally heard the song, she did not want to record it. It was her manager and husband, Rene Angelil, who convinced her to record a demo version, which was something she hadn´t done for many years. Horner waited until Cameron was in an appropriate mood before presenting him with the song. After playing it several times, Cameron declared his approval, although worried that he might be criticised for "going commercial at the end of the movie". Cameron also wanted to appease anxious studio executives and "saw that a hit song from his movie could only be a positive factor in guaranteeing its completion". The original Horner-produced version of the ballad appears on the "Titanic" soundtrack and has an extended ending with longer, segmented vocalizations by Celine. The single also played over the ending credits of the film. When the single was to be released to radio, it was produced further by Walter Afanasieff who added string and electric guitar, as well as rearranged portions of the song. This version appears on the 4-track maxi single as well as on Celine´s album, "Let´s Talk About Love". In the "Let´s Talk About Love" album booklet, the lyrics of the song contain an additional line between a second chorus and the final verse. The words, "There is some love that will not go away", are not performed by Celine in any available version of the song, however, they are still included on Celine´s official site. In addition to Celine´s "Let´s Talk About Love" and the "Titanic" soundtrack, "My heart will go on" appears on several other albums, including "Au Cœur Du Stade", "All The Way… A Decade Of Song", "A New Day... Live In Las Vegas", "Complete Best", "My Love: Essential Collection", and "Taking Chances World Tour - The Concert". It was also included on the following DVDs: "Au Cœur Du Stade", "All The Way… A Decade Of Song & Video" and "Live In Las Vegas - A New Day...". At the height of the song´s popularity, some radio stations in the US and the UK played an edited version of the song, that had dramatic moments of dialog from the Jack and Rose lead characters in the film inserted in between Celine´s vocal lines. It was included later on the "Back To Titanic" second soundtrack album. In France, "My heart will go on" was released as a double A-side single with "The reason". "My heart will go on" is Celine´s biggest hit and one of the best-selling singles in history, having sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. In the United States, the song was given a limited number of copies - 690,000. Regardless, it debuted at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100, with sales of 360,000 copies, where it stayed for two weeks. In addition, the song spent ten weeks at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay, and was number one for two weeks on the Hot 100 Singles Sales. As a testament to the popularity of the song on the radio, the song broke the record for the then-largest radio audience ever, garnering 117 million listeners in February 1998. The single was eventually certified gold in the United States. Ask Billboard reported that the digital copy of the single has sold 871,000 since being available bringing total sales to 1.5 million copies sold in the US. In addition "My heart will go on" reached number one in several other U.S. charts, including, Billboard´s Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, Top 40 Mainstream, Hot Latin Pop Airplay, and Hot Latin Tracks. For the latter, the single became the first English-language song to top the Hot Latin Tracks chart, to which Celine was given a Billboard Latin Music Award for that achievement. Internationally the song was phenomenally successful, spending many weeks at the top position in various countries, including 17 weeks on the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, 15 weeks in Switzerland, 13 weeks in France and Germany, 11 weeks in the Netherlands and Sweden, ten weeks in Belgium Wallonia, Denmark, Italy, and Norway, seven weeks in Belgium Flanders, six weeks in Ireland, four weeks in Australia and Austria, two weeks in Spain and the United Kingdom, and one week in Finland. In Germany, "My heart will go on" was certified 4x platinum for selling over two million copies, and was ranked as one of the most popular singles ever released, there. It sold over 1.2 million copies in France, being certified 2x platinum and diamond. Additionally, the song was certified 3x platinum in Belgium, 2x platinum in Australia, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland, platinum in Greece, and gold in Austria. "My heart will go on" was released twice in Japan. The regular edition from January 1998 sold 210,000 and was certified 2x platinum, for 200,000 copies sold. The remixed edition released in June 1998 sold 115,000 copies and was certified gold for 100,000 copies sold, due the fact that maxi-singles are treated as an album. In the United Kingdom the song sold over 1 million copies, which was Celine´s second single to do so. This made her the only solo female artist to have two million-selling singles in the UK, a record which still stands. "My heart will go on" won the 1997 Academy Award for Best Original Song. It dominated the Grammy Awards of 1999, winning Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television. "My heart will go on" won also the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song-Motion Picture in 1998. The song also won a Japanese Gold Disc Award, for Song of the Year, as well as a Billboard Music Award for Soundtrack Single of the Year. In a 2006 poll for a program on Five channel called "Britain´s Favourite Break-up Songs", "My heart will go on" was voted tenth. It has been named one of the Songs of the Century. It is one of the best-selling singles ever in the UK, selling over a million copies, the second single released by Celine to do so. She is the only female artist to date to have released two million-selling singles in Britain. It was ranked at number 14 on AFI´s 100 Years...100 Songs, celebrating the 100 greatest songs in American film history. In April 2010, the UK radio station Magic 105.4 voted the single the "top movie song of all time" after listeners´ votes. In December 2007, the song peaked #21 on VH1´s "100 Greatest Songs of the 90´s". Due to the song´s widespread popularity when it was released, it is considered to be Celine´s signature song. Today, along with two other songs from film soundtracks, Whitney Houston´s "I will always love you" from "The Bodyguard" and Bryan Adams´ "(Everything I do) I do it for you" from "Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves", it is considered one of the biggest love ballads of the 1990s. Singer Neil Diamond covered the song for a film tracks album. In 1998, Vicky Leandros recorded a German version of the song on her album "Weil Mein Herz Dich Nie Mehr Vergißt" under the name "Weil mein herz dich nie mehr vergisst". English singer Sarah Brightman recorded an Italian version of the song on her album "Eden" with the song title of "Il mio cuore va". New Found Glory also recorded a cover, on their "From The Screen To Your Stereo" EP. Saxophonist Kenny G recorded an instrumental cover version. British singer Niki Evans covered the song on the UK television show, "The X Factor". A speedy eurodance remix was made by Deja Vu and Tasmin for the 1999 compilation album "Dancemania Speed 2". This was later included on the 2000 greatest hits album "Dancemania Speed Best 2001 Hyper Nonstop Megamix" and 2003 compilation album "Speed SFX". Joe McElderry also sang the Italian version for his second album "Classic". A CD single with the Ground Beat Remix of "My heart will go on" also was released by Blank.

...> "Immortality"
"Immortality" is a single from the album "Let´s Talk About Love", released on June 8, 1998 outside the United States. The Bee Gees can be heard on the background vocals.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
"Immortality" was composed by brothers Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb and Maurice Gibb, members of the Bee Gees, specially for Celine, and produced by Walter Afanasieff. A demo version of the song featuring just the brothers can be found on subsequent greatest hits albums of the Bee Gees. The song was a commercial success reaching number 2 in Austria and Germany, number 4 in Europe, number 5 in the United Kingdom and number 8 in Switzerland. In Brazil, the Cuca mixes became very popular. However, the track was never released as a single in the United States. Sony Music Entertainment decided to release there "To love you more" instead. "Immortality" was certified platinum in Germany (for over 500,000 copies sold), gold in Sweden (15,000), and silver in France (125,000) and the UK (200,000). The live version of this song was included on the "One Night Only" CD and DVD by the Bee Gees, released on November 3, 1998. Celine performed this song also during her "Let´s Talk About Love Tour". "Immortality" became a part of non-American versions of Celine´s later greatest hits: "All The Way… A Decade Of Song" and "My Love: Essential Collection". A rare single´s cover leaked to the internet. However the project was never marketed.

...> "When I need you"
"When I need you" is a promotional single from from "Let´s Talk About Love" album, released on September 7, 1998 in Brazil only.

After Celine finished her "Falling Into You Tour" in June 1997, she began to record her next English album. Celine and her manager and husband, Rene Angelil wanted to include few cover versions on it. David Foster came up with the idea of recording Leo Sayer´s hit "When I need you". The song, recorded at Paramount Studios and Chartmaker Studios, was produced by Foster and included on "Let´s Talk About Love". Celine performed this song during the "Let´s talk about love Avec Julie Snyder" Canadian TV show in late 1997. After a string of successful singles like "My heart will go on" and "Immortality," Sony Music Entertainment decided to release "When I need you" as a promotional single in Brazil. Two previous singles were very successful in Brazil. However, with no music video and no promotion "When I need you" failed to repeat the success of Celine earlier songs. Authors of "When I need you" worked with Celine also on several other songs. Albert Hammond wrote "Just walk away", included on "The Colour Of My Love" album (1993) and Carole Bayer Sager wrote "The prayer", which became a part of "These Are Special Times" (1998). The promo CD includes only one song: "When I need you".
