CONCERT IN WINNIPEG
On April 17, 1993 Celine Dion performed at the Walker Theatre in Winnipeg, Canada with the "Celine Dion Tour" in front of 1,685 people. As she did during her last visit to the same theatre less than two years ago, Celine let that marvelous voice do most of the talking. But she now has all the goods to present a stunningly complete package. The confidence and poise she displayed during the 15-song, 90-minute performance shocked any of those who may not have seen her for awhile. From the moment she emerged, looking sensational in short black skirt covered by longer black jacket, she appeared natural and relaxed but dominated the stage. She talked to the audience, not often, but the words rang true. She may not have spoken specifically to her French-speaking fans, but she laid out her true allegiance by opening the show with "Des mots qui sonnent". She later included two others from the album "Dion Chante Plamondon". Celine also performed "Where does my heart beat now", "Beauty and the beast", "Love can move mountains" and "If you asked me to". Three covers took place that night; Aretha Franklin´s version of "Natural woman", Elton John´s lovely ballad "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" and Elvis´ "Can´t help falling in love with you".
CONCERT IN QUEBEC
On September 7, 1993 Celine Dion performed at the Le Théàtre Capitole in Quebec, Canada long before "The Colour Of My Love" album release, and the "The Colour Of My Love Tour". Celine performed songs from her three English-language albums, in particular the multi-platinum "The Colour Of My Love". She performed in particular: "Everybody´s talkin' my baby down", "Love can move mountains", "If you asked me to", "Only one road", "Ce n´était qu´un rêve", "Misled", "Think twice" and "Where does my heart beat now". Celine´s parents were there in the audience. After a costume change, Celine returned to the stage and she performed "When I fall in love" in duet with Clive Griffin, "Refuse to dance", "The power of love" and "Beauty and the beast" in duet with Peabo Bryson. Celine also performed Elvis Presley´s song, called "Can´t help falling in love". The last song was "The colour of my love", in wich Celine moved to tears. The concert was aired in December 1993 in Canada at the CTV channel, and in February 1994 in the United States at the Disney Channel as a TV special (a 90-minute TV special). The next day, Celine performed at the Le Théàtre Capitole again. These concerts were filmed and released on VHS as "The Colour Of My Love Concert" on October 19, 1995 and re-released on DVD on January 6, 1998. Ten years later on September 12, 2008, a Visual Milestones DVD edition was released.
THE COLOUR OF MY LOVE SPECIAL
On November 8, 1993 Celine Dion appeared on the broadcast of a TV special-concert to help promote the album "The Colour Of My Love", wich was released that day. The show took place at Metropolis, a famous bar located in Montreal, Canada, a place chosen by Celine´s manager Rene Angelil. Celine performed "Misled", "Refuse to dance" and "Everybody´s talkin' my baby down". After a costume change, Celine performed "The power of love". Celine and Rene were interviewed by the Canadian TV and radio personality Sonia Benezra, who hosted the show. It was the very last scene, the scene of the kiss, when Celine would announce that the song "The colour of my love" was indeed Rene. Once she had sung half of the fifteen songs on the album, Celine was to bring Rene up on stage, while she was singing "The colour of my love", and kiss Rene on the mouth. The privacy had ended, more than 2,000 people had managed to squeeze into the Metropolis, and two TV channels, Musique Plus and Télévision Quatre Saisons, together with the Major Montreal radio stations, were broadcasting the event live. Rene had excluded the cameras of TVA channel from Metropolis. Loyal in his friendships but vengeful against anyone that stood in his way, Rene Angelil still hadn´t forgiven Michel Chamberland, the TVA program director, for having insisted that Celine´s appearance on the program "Ad Lib", hosted by Jean-Pierre Coallier, be exclusive. This had ocurred a few years earlier when Celine was launching the album "Dion Chante Plamondon". The promotion of the album had begun on Radio Canada, on Studio Libre, and Michel Chamberland had refused to have Celine on the program a few days after she appeared on Radio Canada channel. Rene had sworn then that the singer would never take part in any program on TVA as long as Chamberland was still around. So, on that particularly emotional evening of November 8, 1993, the cameras of TVA were not permitted to show the first kiss publicly exchanged between Celine and Rene.
