...> About The Album
"Sans Attendre" features sixteen songs produced mainly by Jacques Veneruso, David Gategno and Scott Price. It contains three duets with Johnny Hallyday, Jean-Pierre Ferland and the late Henri Salvador. On June 7, 2012, Celine´s official website announced that during April and May, 2012 the singer began recording songs for her next French and English albums. The French album will feature all new material and the English one will include studio versions of previously unreleased songs from Celine´s Las Vegas show, "Celine", as well as several brand new tracks. On June 29, 2012, celinedion.com previewed a thirty-second fragment of the first single written and co-produced by Jacques Veneruso, "Parler à mon père" form the French-language album which was scheduled for release on November 5, 2012. However, in selected European countries, it was released on November 2, 2012. The cover art for the single was revealed at the same time. The full version of "Parler à mon père" premiered on July 1, 2012 and the single was released to digital outlets in selected countries on the next day. On August 19, 2012, Celine´s official website posted information that the album will include "Une chance qu´on s´a", a duet with Canadian artist Jean-Pierre Ferland, who also wrote the song´s lyrics. Celine and Ferland had previously joined their voices during the "Céline Sur Les Plaines" concert that celebrated Quebec City´s 400th anniversary in 2008. Another duet with French singer Johnny Hallyday was also announced. A sneak preview of the music video for "Parler à mon père" was posted on celinedion.com on September 5, 2012 and the full video premiered the next day. Celine finished recording her French-language album in September 2012. On October 1, 2012, Celine´s official website presented the album´s cover art and announced in a press release that "Sans Attendre" will be released in two versions: standard edition with fourteen tracks and twenty-four-page booklet in jewel case and deluxe edition with sixteen songs, twenty-four-page booklet and a twelve-page desk calendar in special digipak. Jean-Pierre Ferland, a Canadian singer and songwriter appears twice on the album. He recorded his own song, "Une chance qu´on s´a" in duet with Celine and wrote the lyrics for "Je n´ai pas besoin d´amour". Luc Plamondon, a Canadian lyricist offered her "Que toi au monde". Both artists worked together on "Dion Chante Plamondon" in 1991. Several other artists also joined Celine for duets: a French singer and actor, Johnny Hallyday on "L´amour peut prendre froid" (a French-language adaptation of "Love me anyway" performed by Mary Ann Redmond) and the late French-Caribbean singer, Henri Salvador in a virtual duet titled "Tant de temps". Newcomers to Celine´s list of collaborators include Grand Corps Malade, who penned the lyrics for "La mer et l´enfant" and Stanislas with Maxime Le Forestier who wrote "Moi quand je pleure" (in 2000, Le Forestier co-wrote "Tomber" which was later recorded by Celine in English as "Ten days" and included on "A New Day Has Come"). Jacques Veneruso, a longtime collaborator wrote "Parler à mon père", the first single. He also co-produced the album and composed the arrangements for most songs. Veneruso worked with Celine on her previous number-one albums: "1 Fille & 4 Types" (2003), "On Ne Change Pas" (2005) and "D´elles" (2007). He´s the author of many of her French-language hits, including "Sous le vent", "Tout l´or des hommes" and "Je ne vous oublie pas". Another member of the team is David Gategno who produced and wrote the music for four songs. He worked with Celine previously on "D´elles" and was responsible for her French number-one single, "Et s´il n´en restait qu´une (je serais celle-là)". "Sans Attendre" also includes a studio version of "Ne me quitte pas", which Celine performs during her 2011-14 Las Vegas show, "Celine". The song was written and originally recorded by the Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel in 1959. The lyrics and thirty-second previews of all songs were posted on celinedion.com on October 18, 2012. According to Celine, "this album is about feelings and being close to the people who have known me a long time. I can speak to them freely without having to convince them of what I'm capable of. It´s like a VIP invitation: I invite you into my home".

...> Album Photo Session
Celine Dion posed for a photo session made specially for the album "Sans Attendre". The photo session took place at the Studios G-Star in Florida, USA on May 14, 2012 and was made by photographer Alix Malka. Celine was accompanied by her stylist, Annie Hort. "I did some photos and for once, I feel beautiful above. The photographer did an amazing job", said Celine. However no one photo from that session was used for the album cover, CD artwork or the CD booklet. Anyway, some of the photos taken by Alix Malka were used as part of the promotion for the album (internet, TV and in some giant poster-displays). Footage from the photo session with Alix Malka was shown during the TV documentary "En Attendant Celine" by Vidéotron aired on October 26, 2012 and on the TV special "Sans Attendre" aired on TVA channel in Quebec, Canada on November 4, 2012. New photos, previously unseen, were published on the fall/winter 2012 issue of the magazine "7 Hollywood". Many of the photos from this session were used as part of the promotion of Celine´s next album titled "Loved Me Back To Life" (2013) even one of them was chosen as the album´s cover. Other photos were included on the album booklet of "Loved Me Back To Life", and other were included on the tour programme of the "Sans Attendre Tour".

...> Title And Cover
During the interview with Le Parisien, Celine announced the title of upcoming French album, "Sans Attendre" which means "Without Waiting". But during an interview with Herby Moreau, host of Quebec television show "District V", Celine explained that the title of the album, "Sans Attendre" (meaning "Without Waiting") means for herself "don´t leave until tomorrow what you can do today" and that "today" is the most important day. Also, the song  titled "Attendre" contains on its lyrics the phrase "C´est l´amour qu´il me faut te rendre, sans attendre". The album cover was presented through Celine´s official site on October 1, 2012. It features a caricature of Celine, illustrated by Aurore Hutton, who is niece of former French President Valéry Giscard d´Estaing. Celine explained the choice of the visual. "I was both disappointed and excited by this project. Recently, I did some photos and for once, I feel beautiful above. The photographer did an amazing job. So when I was offered these images a little caricatures instead, I wondered if it was not a joke. Yet at the same time, I am happy with their lightness. It alleviates the emotions", she said. There´s a woman on the album´s cover (is supposed to be Celine) with a heart hanging on her hand. Behind her, there´s a tree with several elements hanging from its branches, all related to Celine (a treble clef, a shoe, a frog, a baby´s bottle and a number 5 ball). The first version of the cover, wich was introduced in October 2012 did not have the "number 5" on the tree´s branches. Finally, the cover with the number 5 ball was the final one. Although the version without the number 5 ball was used for the deluxe edition of "Sans Attendre". Another different cover was shown on a review article by Bernard Perusse, published on The Gazette (montrealgazette.com) on November 2, 2012. It shows a picture of "Celine" in a different position and behind her a clock ticking 17:00 hs. (Celine´s lucky number). Although this is a reliable source, the cover is not official.

...> Critical Reception
"Sans Attendre" received mixed-to-positive reviews from music critics, some of whom noticed that it is a tastefully restrained, personal album. The various themes in the songs include longing for a departed father, the cruelty of love, the healing power of tears, the waning days of an aging mother or the misery of a baby´s death. According to Bernard Perusse from The Gazette, the album is full of big dramatic emotion with various themes in the songs: longing for a departed father, the cruelty of love, the healing power of tears, the waning days of an aging mother, the emotional consolation sought by a single parent, the loss of a lover to war, the realization that a long-standing relationship is dead, the misery of a baby's death and the romantic upheaval of a serious fight. Perusse praised the "lightly-orchestrated" "Moi quand je pleure" with unusual chord structure, the "refreshingly subdued" "Parler à mon père" and "Le miracle," a "forceful attack" on Jacques Brel´s classic "Ne me quitte pas" and the "serviceable pop" of "Les jours comme ça". However, he called "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" a "quasi-arena-rock showcase" and "Les petits pieds de Léa" an "unfortunate" composition which came out of the grief. In the latter track, a mother sings to her dead baby and ruminates on all the moments they will not share. The inspiration is from lyricist Marianne L´Heureux´s real-life tragedy. According to Alain de Repentigny from La Presse, authors and composers on "Sans Attendre" are not equally talented and often the singer looks better. He suggested that finding someone like Jean-Jacques Goldman and making the whole album with him would be a better choice. Repentigny praised "Celle qui m´a tout appris" with lyrics by Nina Bouraoui, calling it one of the best songs on the album. Another song that stands out is "Que toi au monde", written by Luc Plamondon about the soldier who goes to war. Repentigny also mentioned "Tant de temps" as "beautiful" track and a "great vintage", quite different from the version published on Henri Salvador´s bossa nova album of the same name, released earlier in 2012. According to Kieron Tyler from The Arts Desk, the album "isn´t going to stop the world turning" but "it is good". In general, "Sans Attendre" embraces a glossy, modern "chanson Française" with songs that have "yearning, rolling" melodies. The "mid-pace is never breached", and any chance to "dive into a soaring chorus" is taken. What´s most striking about "Sans Attendre" is its restraint. The "swirling" "Celle qui m´a tout appris" could have transformed itself into a power ballad, but instead it´s about the melody and mood. Even the "massed kiddie chorus" on "Le miracle" is "kept in check" and doesn´t "stray into the glutinous". "Je n´ai pas besoin d´amour" is an "intimate, aural swoon". Although Tyler criticized the album´s "slightly cheesy chick lit-style graphics", he wrote that "Sans Attendre" contains stylish modern pop of a type that "begs to be heard beyond the world it´s addressing". Among the songs worth downloading, Darryl Sterdan from Ottawa Sun mentioned "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" and "Attendre". Paula Haddad from Music Story praised the playful melody of "Moi quand je pleure" and wrote that the accordion-driven "La mer et l´enfant" is the most beautiful song dedicated to motherhood. Lea Hermann from Focus praised Celine´s vocal talent but called the album trivial. She noticed that especially two songs stand out: a rock-inspired, dramatic "Qui peut vivre sans amour" and the 90´s sounding duet with Johnny Hallyday, "L´amour peut prendre froid". Among good tracks she also mentioned "Le miracle" with the "fresh spring-like" background vocals, the brisk opener "Parler à mon père", "Une chance qu´on s´a" which she compared to "Beauty and the beast", quiet and melancholic "Que toi au monde", and "Les petits pieds de Léa" with the intro which sounds like the melody of a music box. Hermann praised the playful and girlish look of the album cover and booklet, "lovingly" illustrated with hearts, children´s toys and clef that alludes to Celine´s double life as a singer and mother. She stated that most of the songs on "Sans Attendre" are equally playful and girlish. According to Łukasz Mantiuk from All About Music, the album is good. "Sans Attendre" is definitely a lot quieter and milder than "D´elles" but it has its charm. Among the best tracks he mentioned "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?", "Si je n´ai rien de toi", "Le miracle", "Parler à mon père" and "Ne me quitte pas". However, he criticized the duets, calling them similar to each other. According to Jonathan Hamard from Pure Charts, "Si je n´ai rien de toi" is one of the most enjoyable songs on the album. On the other hand, themes of life and dead are mixed on tracks like "Les petits pieds de Léa" and "Parler à mon père". Generally, the melodies on the album are very successful but several new titles lack of character. The single, "Le miracle" which is "one big ray of sunshine" in this melancholy album, is not very original, the same as "Celle qui m´a tout appris", "Que toi au monde" and "Une chance qu´on s´a". Hamard also stated that the duets left him "hungry for more". According to him, the album is uneven and inconsistent, maybe because of many writers and producers participating in the project. Marty Tobin from Quai Baco also wrote that the album is unequal with good songs and some which are superfluous. He praised "Parler à mon père" for its composition and production by Jacques Veneruso and "Le miracle" which works because of the choir and "Céline´s touch", but the best song on the album is "Moi quand je pleure", written by Maxime Le Forestier and Stanislas. Among the weakest songs, Tobin mentioned "Attendre" which according to him does not leave a lasting impression. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic gave the album three and a half out of five stars calling it a moody collection. According to him, the production is relatively restrained and, in turn, it gives plenty of space for Dion to "grandstand on these tales of heartbreak, aging, and death". Erlewine noted that "these aren´t songs of love; they´re songs of loss, and that there´s a genuine pathos in them". He called "Sans Attendre" one of Celine´s best albums in recent years.

THE SINGLES
...> "Parler à mon père"
"Parler à mon père" (meaning "Talk to my father") is the first single from Celine´s French-language album, "Sans Attendre". "Parler à mon père" was released as a digital download on July 2, 2012 on iTunes. Promotional CD singles were also released on same day and sent to radio stations.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
"Parler à mon père" was written by Jacques Veneruso, and produced by Veneruso and Patrick Hampartzoumian. "Parler à mon père" is a pop song about Celine´s father who died in 2003. The track received generally positive reviews from music critics, who noted that it is one of the standout songs on "Sans Attendre". On June 29, 2012, celinedion.com previewed a thirty-second fragment of the first single form the French-language album, "Parler à mon père". The cover art for the single was created by the illustrator Aurore Hutton, niece of former French President Valéry Giscard d´Estaing. The full version of "Parler à mon père" premiered on July 1, 2012 and the single was released to digital outlets in selected countries on the next day. The song was written and produced by Jacques Veneruso and co-produced by Patrick Hampartzoumian. Veneruso wrote many French-language hits for Celine, including: "Sous le vent", "Tout l´or des hommes", "Je ne vous oublie pas" and "Immensité", among others. Lyrically, the song is about Celine´s father who passed away on November 30, 2003. Celine said that he was her biggest fan and she thinks of him every day and knows that he is always with her, watching over her children. The song received generally favorable reviews from music critics. According to Łukasz Mantiuk of All About Music, "Parler à mon père" is one of the best tracks on the album. He called it a very good song but noted that "Parler à mon père" does not reflect the material on the album which contains mostly ballads. Bernard Perusse from The Gazette commented that the performance and arrangement of "Parler à mon père" is "refreshingly subdued" and controlled. The song has an "instantly-accessible melody for Dion to navigate", which makes a "perfect vehicle for her to sail gracefully". Alain de Repentigny from La Presse wrote that it is a pop song written custom for Dion. However, he felt that this first single is no locomotive for the new album. According to Pure Charts, "Parler à mon père" is a bit nostalgic but not melancholic. Marty Tobin of Quai Baco wrote that this song is a great opener for the album, with touching lyrics and catchy music. According to him, "Parler à mon père" brings nothing new to the French music but it is done well, so he can´t complain. Lea Hermann from Focus also praised the song calling it a brisk opener for the album. "Parler à mon père" became a very successful single in Quebec, topping the chart for ten weeks. On the Canadian Hot 100 which includes mainly English-language songs, "Parler à mon père" peaked at number fifty-three. In Europe, the song reached number eight in France, number eleven in Belgium Wallonia and number twenty-five in Switzerland. It has also become one of Celine´s longest-charting singles in France and Belgium Wallonia. According to Francophonie Diffusion, "Parler à mon père" was the 14th most-played French single worldwide during 2012. Celine performed the song during two television specials promoting the album: in Canada on November 4, 2012 on TVA and in France on November 24, 2012 on France 2. Later on December 2, 2012, she also sang it on "Chabada" on France 3 and on "Vivement Dimanche" on France 2. On December 20, 2012, Celine performed "Parler à mon père" in another television special on NRJ 12. A rare promo CD of "Parler à mon père", in an envelope (without booklet), was also released in France.

...> "Le miracle"
"Le miracle" (meaning "The miracle") is a song recorded by Celine, released as the second single from her French-language album "Sans Attendre", on November 2, 2012. It was written by Marie Bastide and Gioacchino Maurici, and produced by Jacques Veneruso and Patrick Hampartzoumian.
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
"Le miracle" is a pop song about miracles in everyday life. It received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who noted that it is one of the standout tracks on the album. The lyrics and thirty-second previews of all songs from "Sans Attendre" were posted on Celine´s official website on October 18, 2012. On October 28, 2012, a week before the album´s release, celinedion.com announced that "Le miracle" was chosen as the second single. "Le miracle" was written by Marie Bastide and Gioacchino Maurici, while the production was handled by Jacques Veneruso and Patrick Hampartzoumian, who also produced Celine´s previous single, "Parler à mon père". It is a pop song, which begins with a simple piano and Celine´s voice which later mingles with children´s choir. The track also uses ukulele played by Veneruso. Lyrically, the song is about seeing miracles in everyday life and believing in them. It speaks about love and hope. The song received generally positive reviews from music critics. Łukasz Mantiuk of All About Music wrote that "Le miracle" is one of the best tracks on the album. He called it a joyful song with wonderful children´s choir. Bernard Perusse from The Gazette commented that the performance and arrangement of "Le miracle" is "refreshingly subdued" and controlled. The song has an instantly-accessible melody for Dion to navigate, which makes a "perfect vehicle for her to sail gracefully". Kieron Tyler of The Arts Desk called it restrained and noted that even the "massed kiddie chorus is kept in check" and "doesn´t stray into the glutinous". Alain de Repentigny from La Presse wrote that it is a catchy pop song that we can hum from the very first listen, but whose charm wears out quickly. According to Pure Charts, "Le miracle" is "one big ray of sunshine" on "Sans Attendre" but isn´t very original. Marty Tobin of Quai Baco got the impression that he heared the melody of "Le miracle" dozens of times since Joe Dassin, but the presence of the choir and Dion´s touch make it work well again. "Le miracle" enjoyed a great success in Quebec. In late November 2012, the song has reached the top position on both the Top 100 Francophone and Top 25 Adult Contemporary charts. On November 7, 2012, the single also debuted on the Canadian Adult Contemporary Chart which includes mainly English-language songs, and reached number twenty nine so far. "Le miracle" entered the Belgian Wallonia Ultratip Chart on November 23, 2012, and the next week it debuted on the French Singles Chart and Belgian Flanders Ultratip Chart. The single´s cover features an illustration of a pregnant woman, designed by Aurore d´Estaing. Celine performed the song during the Canadian television special on November 4, 2012 on TVA, the French television special on November 24, 2012 on France 2, and also in two shows on France 3: "Chabada" on December 2, 2012 and "Céline en toute intimité" on December 17, 2012. On December 20, 2012, Celine sang "Le miracle" in another television special on NRJ 12. A rare promo CD of "Le miracle", in an envelope (without booklet), was also released in France.

...> "L´amour peut prendre froid"
"L´amour peut prendre froid" is a duet song by Celine Dion and French singer and actor, Johnny Hallyday, included on Celine´s album "Sans Attendre" and on Hallyday´s album "L´attente". Although unofficially, a rare promo CD, in an labeled envelope (without booklet), was released in France in 2012. The promo CD features a photo from Celine and Hallyday taken in 2005 on the backstage of a French TV special, where both singers performed "L´envie". "L´amour peut prendre froid" was written by Christophe Miossec, Todd Wright and Mary Ann Redmond and it was produced by Yvan Cassar. The song is a French-language adaptation of "Love me anyway", originally performed by Mary Ann Redmond. Lea Hermann from Focus noticed that especially two songs stand out on "Sans Attendre": a rock-inspired, dramatic "Qui peut vivre sans amour" and the 90´s sounding duet with Hallyday, "L´amour peut prendre froid". There was no music video made for this song.

"Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" was written by Elodie Hesme and David Gategno, and produced by Julien Schultheis and Gategno. "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who called it an orchestral rock power ballad. The lyrics and thirty-second previews of all songs from "Sans Attendre" were posted on Celine´s official website on October 18, 2012. "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" became available as a digital download from the album on the day that "Sans Attendre" was released. On February 10, 2013, celinedion.com announced that it was chosen as the third single and on March 8, 2013 the single was sent to radio stations in Francophone countries. The promo´s cover was shown on March 8, 2013 on internet and features a picture of a woman with a little dog on a sofa, also illustrated by Aurore Hutton. The song was written by Elodie Hesme and David Gategno, while the production was handled by Julien Schultheis and Gategno. Elodie Hesme worked with Celine for the first time and wrote the lyrics to three songs from "Sans Attendre": "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?", "Attendre" and "Si je n´ai rien de toi". David Gategno already collaborated with Celine on "D´elles" in 2007, including composing and producing her French number-one single, "Et s´il n´en restait qu´une (je serais celle-là)". On "Sans Attendre" he composed and produced four tracks: "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?", "Attendre", "La mer et l´enfant" and "Si je n´ai rien de toi". Julien Schultheis worked with Celine for the first time, producing "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" and playing instruments on it, and also on "Attendre" and "Si je n´ai rien de toi". In "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?", Celine "takes a dramatic tone revealing a darker side" and asks who can live without love, knowing that it can at times cause pain and suffering. Celine "overwhelms the worst evils" in the song: if love is a "plague", a "criminal" and causes the most disastrous "wars", it also governs our lives and is the source of our dreams. The track features Paris Pop Orchestra conducted by Stanislas. The song received generally positive reviews from music critics. Łukasz Mantiuk from All About Music called it strong and feisty and chose it as the best track on "Sans Attendre". Lea Hermann from Focus wrote that "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" is a rock inspired, drums driven, dramatic song that stands out on the album. Paula Haddad from Music Story praised the production of the track and Darryl Sterdan from Ottawa Sun mentioned "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" as a song worth downloading from "Sans Attendre". Alain de Repentigny from La Presse called it an orchestral rock power ballad. He praised the fact that Celine is "biting" into a rock song but he felt that the guitar solo a little dated. According to Jonathan Hamard from Pure Charts, "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" is the only truly dynamic song on the album and it has an effective chorus. Marty Tobin from Quai Baco wrote that "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" is a "Celine Dion rock song" with a little saturated guitar in the chorus and many layers of violins which makes it closer to Mozart, l´opéra rock than "Killed by Death" by Motörhead. According to Evous France, "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" is a rock ballad with an energetic vocal, a little similar to "Et s´il n´en restait qu´une (je serais celle-là)". Geneviève Bouchard from La Presse criticized the track because of the rock sounds which dominated the song and Bernard Perusse from The Gazette called it a "quasi-arena-rock showcase" with a "strangely abrasive, tuneless chorus". After the single "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" was announced, Evous France criticized this choice, preferring the release of "Je n´ai pas besoin d´amour", "Une chance qu´on s´a", "Celle qui m´a tout appris" or "L´amour peut prendre froid". Celine performed "Qui peut vivre sans amour ?" during two French television specials: on November 24, 2012 on France 2 and on December 20, 2012 on NRJ 12.

...> "Parler à mon père"
On September 6, 2012 was officially released the music video of "Parler à mon père" through Celine´s official website. The day before, it had showed a 30 second preview clip. The video was shooted in July 2012 in the desert area of Las Vegas, USA. It was directed by Thierry Vargnes who previously worked with Celine in 2007 on the music videos for "Et s´il n´en restait qu´une (je serais celle-là)" and "Immensité". The video was filmed in Las Vegas, USA on July 16, 2012 and in the Death Valley. Because of the temperature of 50 °C (122 °F) in the Nevada desert, in some scenes the director used Celine´s double. Daniela Ameruoso (wife of photographer Christopher Ameruoso) took part of the video as Celine´s double for the desert shots."Daniela has the same body frame as Celine and similar mannerisms. We spent the next day in 120 degree heat 200 miles into Death Valley on the Salt Flats. Daniela was a trooper and spent almost 3 1/2 hours in the direct sunlight. The producers and director were very happy with how Daniela pulled off the shoot", said Christopher Ameruoso. During the video, Celine is dressed in a white dress from designer Elie Saab´s Spring/Summer 2012 collection. According to Pure Charts, the video for "Parler à mon père" is simple and poetic. It opens with a quote from the German poet, Angelus Silesius: "The soul is a crystal and love is its light". In the video, which is full of light, Celine appears alone in the middle of a desert. These images are interspersed with a scene where a younger woman visits the grave of her father.

It was shot under the autumn sun with Celine walking among the trees with orange and red leaves, while several people jump in the air to express their joy and happiness. At the end of the video, a young pregnant woman is shown and a quote from Albert Einstein appears: "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle". ET Canada called the video "uplifting". They used a radio edit of the song for the music video, 20 seconds shorter than the album version.
